RF Remote Controls
RF REMOTE CONTROLS
The remote control has been touted as the human invention that gave birth to couch potatoes. It made lives easier by making them more and more sedentary. While it is a highly convenient tool, its drawbacks are just as many. Many questions abound amongst users of this indispensable tool; why is it that a remote control has to be pointed towards the electronic equipment for it to have any effect? Why is it that you cannot switch off your home theatre from your kitchen? The answer to these simple questions is that most of our remote controls have IR (infra red) sensors, which only function when the remote control is pointed towards the particular equipment. Any barrier like walls and furniture serve to block the infra red rays.
Are you in need of a remote control that does not have to be in the same room with the equipment for it to be of use? The radio frequency (RF) remote control comes to your rescue since it can do just that. With the radio frequency remote control, you can switch off your T.V set from your bedroom. You do not have to worry about it not being in the line of sight with your T.V. either. You can move to another radio station and skip a track on your CD changer.
RF frequency signals do not have to be pointed towards the equipments since they travel through barriers like walls, furniture and even people. The other advantage of the RF remote controls is that you do not have to scout the electronics market to get yourself some new electronic equipment. Most of the electronics in modern homes are infra- red controlled and they cannot respond to RF signals. All you need to do is purchase an RF receiver to translate the RF signals from your remote to IR signals that can be interpreted by your equipment. IR flashers will then send the IR commands to your equipment. The only con with having an RF remote control is that you cannot transmit further than 100 feet but when you think about it, who wants to control their equipment from 100 feet? You need to have an RF receiver transmitter and probably an RF remote extender depending on the effect you desire.
You can be able to control a myriad of other devices using your RF remote control. Using “Z-Wave” technology, other “Z-Wave” technology equipment like switches can be controlled by your RF remote.
